The Importance of Kid’s Outdoor Footwear

By on February 15, 2015

Kids ShoesOutdoor activities such as Geocaching or walking are great activities for kids getting them out of the house and exploring. With 2 young boys ourselves we regularly look to get out on walks and outdoor adventures. One thing we found was after a long walk our kids complained of aching feet. This was due to the boots they were wearing. We found the boots we had bought had little support and were not really designed for walking on anything other than pavements.

The second problem we encountered was wet feet. Whilst their welly’s kept their feet dry they offered little in the way of support. This was not great as we wanted them to enjoy their time out and about and so we started to look at footwear which was suitable for muddy and rocky terrain.

Many footwear experts will tell you the importance of correctly fitting footwear for kids and how incorrect shoe fitting can adversely effect your child’s walking development. Whilst this is true one important factor is the correct style of shoe or boot for the environment or activity. As with anyone, wet feet can lead to whole range of problems however it is important to note that wet feet is not just from rain or wet ground it can also be the result of hot and sweaty feet. So important feature to look for in kids walking footwear is whether they are waterproof and breathable. Other features to look for are how they support the feet from the sole unit, lacing system to the upper.

Having looked at what we needed to get we found the Hi-Tec Hillside Junior Walking boots. Whilst there are possibly many other makes and models on the market these ticked all the boxes and were at a very reasonable price.
